Firstly, that sounds great. Secondly small talk is meaningless filler, not common topics, so asking common things is not small talk as long as I actually care and participate in the conversion (like “how are you?” Or “how was your day?” Or even “interesting weather today”)

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you think there would be less conflict in the world if the average intelligence went up 50%?
7·1 month agoPersonally I don’t think intelligence is the solution, it would justake conflict more complex and thought out. You would need more empathy for a better world.

What they will be hearing: I’m at the ER, can you come?
Maturing from the perspective of loving cake:
Kid: When I grow up I will have my own money and can buy a whole cake everyday!
Teen: When I leave the house I will be able to buy cake as much as I want!
YA: see kid above ^^^
Adult: Now I can finally buy as much cake as I want!
Adult (later that day in varying degrees of pain): The cake was a beautiful lie
And this is why you can never truly just eat as much cake as you want.
OP coming back from work: “AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!”

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Server vs miniPC dilemma for homelabEnglish
11·1 month agoIt is completely up to your local market and needs, ie for how much you can sell it, what you can buy etc…
The only tips I can give you:
- Do you REALLY need all of the compute power? Most people don’t and you would wast a ton on electricity. This point on it’s own is enough to push most to a mini pc. (Immich can run on basically any mini pc)
- is there absolutely no other place for the server where the noise wouldn’t be an issue?
- look into sound proofing, you could house it in a box lined with acoustic foam with a the airway taking multiple 90° turns to keep airflow while reducing noise.
P.S:
I personally went on an in-between, I have a large tower pc, basically a server but with hardware meant for mostly silent work, so it rarely get’s noisier than background.

Most self-hosted solutions come as containers, containers are Linux only and on Windows they run under the WSL VM, so eventually (if you are not doing full installs) you are still using Linux
